ABOUT TULLY RUGBY LEAGUE

Tully is a town and locality in the Cassowary Coast RegionQueensland, Australia.  It is adjacent to the Bruce Highway, approximately 140 kilometres south of Cairns and 210 kilometres north of Townsville.

The Tully River, previously known as the Mackay River, was named after Surveyor-General William Alcock Tully in the 1870s. The town of Tully was named after the river when it was surveyed during the construction of the sugar mill in 1924.

Tully Rugby League began in 1926 and soon will celebrate 100 years of footy in the region.  We began with the Warriors and Wanderers teams in 1927.  Some other early teams were Stars (bottom pub), and Colts (top pub).  There were also teams from El Arish, Cardwell and a Main Roads team of workers building the Kirrama Range Road.

Today Tully Rubgy League includes Tully Junior Rugby League from under 6's through to under 16's, which currently includes an under 15's girls team.  Presently Tully Tigers have an Under 19's, Reserve and A Grade team in the FNQRL Seniors 2024 Competition.
